ENC RIBN is a partnership between East Carolina University and several community colleges.
Clinical facilities require criminal background checks, drug screening, credit checks, and/or proof of US citizenship prior to or during participation in the clinical portion of a program. Pending the outcome, clinical facilities may deny a student the opportunity to complete the clinical portion of a program. A student who is unable to complete the clinical portion of a program will affect progression and may not be able to graduate.
For all ENC RIBN students criminal background checks and drug screens will be required by ECU prior to entering year two summer baccalaureate nursing courses in the RIBN curriculum. This will be at the expense of the student.
Criminal background check, drug screening, credit checks, and/or proof of US citizenship may also be required after graduation by examination boards, state licensing boards and employing agencies. Pending the outcome, a graduate may be disqualified from examination eligibility, state licensure, and /or employment.
Answering "yes" to one or more of the following questions will not necessarily preclude your being admitted. Your failure to provide complete, accurate, and truthful information will be grounds to deny or withdraw your admission, dismiss you, or subject you to disciplinary sanctions after enrollment. The university may spot check records and obtain official court and/or school documentation to ensure accuracy, and the campuses may share pertinent information as needed for the safety of the university system.
The university is committed to safety and has a process for conducting criminal background checks on applicants. This may or may not happen with regard to your application.
For the purpose of the following six questions, "crime" or "criminal charge" refers to any crime other than a traffic-related misdemeanor or an infraction. You must, however, include alcohol or drug offenses whether or not they are traffic related. You must disclose criminal charges or crimes dismissed as a result of a deferred prosecution agreement or any other arrangement under which you accepted responsibility for an alleged crime. Complete honesty is expected.
